Description

The novel is comprised of stories passed from one generation of women to the next, which strengthen each with significant lessons in relevant phases of her life.

The journey begins with two unwitting women, Debra Quakerneck and Mieke Adams, who meet one another through a community center. Debra had just lost her husband to infidelity (a sexual affair with her sister!) when she meets Mieke: an elderly woman with a lust for life, an admiration for the Japanese culture, and a lifetime of stories to share.

Mieke’s distinctive Zen garden furnishes the stage for kindred spirits to play out a drama of broken hearts, lost relatives, and the long road to healing.

AWG is a story of self-discovery by way of passing knowledge on to others, bonding and human response to kindred spirits. Identification is like the sea that declines no water no matter what its source, therefore all waters gathering to form the sea.

Carruther’s Place

by A.E.H. Veenman

89 Carruther’s Place was where feminist writer Dr. Jessica Winward and her daughter, Laura, lived. Jessica purchased the brownstone back in the early 90s, during her divorce from an accountant named Ben Winward. For Barclay O’Malley, Ben’s second ex-wife and Jessica’s former student, the residence was a vortex, where her past and present united in the most unexpected way.

Barclay invites us into her world the morning of Jessica’s funeral. Her compilation of memories becomes her final tribute to her wife: the completion of Jessica’s life story.

Red Door, The Colored Door Series

by A.E.H. Veenman

Some demons you simply can’t get rid of. Whether past sins haunt you in the afterlife, or a sadistic, homosexual vampire hosts your stay in Purgatory—one way or another, you got to get in to get out. No truer words were spoken, as far as Benjamin Shine is concerned. The short story, Red Door, introduces Shiny B to the rules and regulations of his current existence.

Shiny B learns that each of the color doors symbolizes something in his life, but full realization doesn’t come until nearly the end of each case he must solve. Generally, the colored doors represent actual colors of something related to Shiny B’s misguided and unfortunate life. With each novel (and hence each colored door), the metaphors become less obvious, more obscure, and Shiny B remember what each refers to in his former life.
